So if you hit 15 or 16 and you've started to stall out on your leveling speed, don't worry there is hope!

At first glance leveling 16+ seems like the same old combination of making food, finishing goals and feeding dragons. If you have sold any buildings you'd also notice that you get gold from them, about half. You also gain experience by building them usually at about 1/2 of the cost. So a 500k item should give around 250k xp. This actually isn't consistent all the way up, meaning you can't buy a 10 million item and expect to receive 5 million xp. Doesn't work like that. Either way, we have now confirmed that you get XP for building something about about half the gold back for selling it.

Enter boosts. Boosts are an exception to the above rule. You pay 250k for a boost and when its done building, you get 250k xp. You then sell that boost for 125k. So you're essentially buying xp at a rate of 1:1 per gold. That's pretty nifty. Now boosts take 6 hours to fully produce and eventually you'll be able to do all 7. So you build your boosts, wait for 6 hours, 'finalize' them and sell them. You'll have 1,750k xp waiting. So pretty much, to get a pretty awesome flux of XP you need to come up with a way to make around 975k every 6 hours. I found selling sonic dragons (or similar) was a very consistent means of doing so. Using this method, you'll level very quickly.

Leveling 20+

So having just entered the update a few minutes ago, I see we have a few new options. We can upgrade our farms for 750k, DO EEEET! You can still do the boosts, which give that nice 1:1 ratio. You'll want to sell all your boosts really fast and then rebuild them somewhere to start that 6 hour cooldown. We also have an Epic Breeding Cave which can flat out buy for around $5 bucks (which you should do, support the game you enjoy so much damnit) or you can save up gems for it.

Depending on the amount of money you've hoarded whilst being at 20, you can either continue to do the boost method which is a slow but sure gain. Or you could use food to get you there. Once you upgrade your farms (instantly), you have the option to make more expensive food. There is an option for 500k gold to make 10k food. That's the one you want. So for the next 20 minutes (provided you have the gold), spend that cash, farm that food. With 7 farms and 20 minutes you'll have gained around 35 million xp for around 70 million gold. Obviously, do what seems sane to you but you'll be able to level very quick with this method and see whats there at 21+.

Update:

As I level through post 20 content a few things become apparent. Boosts are a devalued leveling resource since the value of gold is now more directly tied in with leveling. That is, food will be your income and boosts will increase that income by 20%. It's not to say that boosts arent a worthwhile investment for XP however certain boosts like, say, Earth, if you have 5 earth habitats, will hurt your food intake more then help it. That being said, if you'd still like to sell boosts, do so with: Plant, Lightning, Air and Fire (in that order of importance). They have such low ceilings on their gold cap that you really don't care about boosting those habitats anyway because 9 times out of 10, they'll be full when you check your game.

The other thing I've noticed here is that you should be doing your Coliseum every day. Upon gold medal you will earn 5.3 million xp (which is a hefty sum) and upon silver medal, 2.6 million. The 2-5 gems that come from a victory are always beneficial as well.

I've turned to selling dragons for the rest of my gold (since gold equates to xp) and trying for the Moon and the Sun dragon is a nice way of doing so. The possible outcomes with a Storm and Sonic dragon are: Sun, Moon, Sonic, Storm or Snow Dragon. Sun and Moon are obvious keepers but both the Sonic and Snow sell for 1 million gold. Storm sells for 100k but they are one of the better earning dragons in the game so keeping them to earn you more gold is also very beneficial. If you get very very lucky and just have too many Sun and Moon dragons to deal with, they sell for 2.5 million a piece. Just remember to level them to 10 before you sell them so you can benefit from the corresponding shrines first, especially with Storm Dragons.

Have fun
